BICYCLE USER GROUPS

The Caped Cycling Crusaders at Cycle Qld ‘05

A BUG or, Bicycle Users' Group, is a cycling advocacy group whose members are local residents and/or cyclists who use the local area.  BUGS can be very effective in bringing about improvements for local cyclists, as the many success stories can testify to.  Local area BUGS usually work with the relevant state's bicycle advocacy group; in this case, Bicycle Queensland.

To see if there is a BUG in your area, check the list below.  Or, for more information about establishing a BUG in your area, contact BQ on 3844 1144.

If you’re a member of a BUG and you’d like your BUG’s contact details to be listed here, please email details through to Kelly at info@epiccycles.com.au, with “BUG Info” in the subject line.

INNER WEST BUG

The INNER WEST BUG covers Brisbane's Inner Western suburbs of Paddington, Red Hill, Milton, Rosalie, Petrie Terrace and Bardon.

Generally, meetings were held on the last Sunday of each month but were rescheduled to avoid clashes with long weekends and the like.  Meetings were seen as a good opportunity to socialise with other cyclists and were usually held in a local cafe.

The Inner West BUG is currently sleeping as we’re all a bit busy at the moment.  However, some enthusiastic new members may be all that is needed to wake it up again.

Phone the shop on (07) 3368 2324 to express your interest, even if you don’t have the time to get it going but just want to be told when it wakes up.

Central Business District BUG

The CBD BUG covers Brisbane’s city district and encourages both residents and city commuters to be involved.

The Logan BUG is a BUG for the Logan City area.  Their main objective is to encourage Logan City Council to implement the Logan Bicycle Network Strategy by the 2011 target completion date - by increasing funding for bikeways.  But they also run a number of social rides.  See www.loganbug.org for more details.
